Why the room does the work here
The venue is the atmosphere
Pier One is built on and over the water at Walsh Bay. Not beside it, not overlooking it. The floor your guests stand on sits out over Sydney Harbour, and the Harbour Bridge is close enough overhead that people photograph it on the way in.
That changes what you have to spend on everything else. The clear-roofed marquee, the wrap-around glass in the Water Room and the water on three sides are already the styling, so most hosts find they add very little.
It is a heritage wharf, so the character is structural: timber, steel and water, rather than a fit-out that will date.

The hotel event rooms take the big guest lists. PIER dining, the restaurant out on the pier, takes the smaller ones. Both sit on the same heritage wharf at Walsh Bay.

These rooms are quoted on a minimum spend rather than a per person rate, because what a room costs depends far more on when you book it than on how you cater it.
The minimum spend varies by space, by day of the week and by time of year. Send us your date and we will confirm the figure that applies to it.

Events in the hotel spaces run for 30 guests and up. PIER dining takes the smaller groups, from around 14 seated in the Private Dining Room through to 82 with the restaurant exclusively yours.
Milestone birthdays
21sts, 30ths, 40ths, 50ths and beyond. Cocktail parties in the marquee for the big years, or a long table at PIER dining when it is closer friends and a proper dinner.
Engagement parties
The venue that hosts the wedding can host the engagement first, so you get to test the room before you commit to it.
Christenings and naming days
Daytime celebrations with indoor and outdoor space, so children are not confined to one room for three hours.
Baby showers
Long lunches in the Dawes Point Rooms, or a smaller table at PIER dining, with natural light and a harbour outlook.
Anniversaries
Silver, ruby, gold and the ones in between. Seated dining for a family group or a cocktail party for everyone you know.

Send through your date, rough guest count and the kind of event. We come back with which spaces are free and what the minimum spend is for that date.

Come and see it, ideally at the time of day your event will run, so the light and the view are the ones your guests will get.

Your coordinator puts together food, beverage and timings, then runs the event on the day so you can actually attend it.

Before you enquire
The hotel event spaces run from 30 guests. PIER dining takes the smaller groups: the Private Dining Room seats up to 14 for a lunch or dinner, or holds up to 40 cocktail style, which suits christenings, milestone birthday dinners and small anniversaries. Taking the restaurant exclusively works up to 82 guests.
It depends which venue you are in. PIER dining publishes its packages: canapes from $65 per person for two hours, plated menus from $99 per person, and beverage packages from $25 per person for non-alcoholic or $50 per person for wine. The hotel event rooms work differently and are quoted on a minimum spend, which varies by which room you book and by the date and time, so a Friday in December is very different to a Sunday lunch in June. Send us your date and guest numbers and you will get the real figure for that date rather than a range.
Almost every space is under cover. The Bridge Marquee has a clear roof, so you keep the view of the Harbour Bridge in any weather, and the Water Room, Dawes Point Rooms and Private Dining Room are fully enclosed. At PIER dining, the Terrace has retracting walls and a retracting roof, so it is weatherproof and can still be opened up on a good day. The Waterside is genuinely outdoors, with permanent umbrellas for sun and light rain and the restaurant a few steps away if the weather turns.
Yes. There are 189 rooms in the hotel directly above the event spaces, which matters for guests travelling in and for anyone who should not be driving home. Ask your coordinator about rates for your event guests when you enquire.
Most hosts bring a cake, and the hotel event spaces suit a band, DJ or stylist. PIER dining is different: amplified speakers are not permitted in the restaurant, but the in-house music can be customised for your event, and microphones or AV are arranged case by case with prior approval. Your coordinator will confirm what is possible in your specific space and handle supplier access on the day. Raise it in your enquiry so it is priced in from the start.
Yes. All dietary requirements can be catered to with advance notice, across canapes, plated courses and desserts. Give your coordinator the numbers and requirements when you confirm and they will be built into the package.
For a Saturday evening or anything in December, as far ahead as you can. Weekday and daytime events are usually available at much shorter notice. The quickest way to find out is to send the date through and let us check it.
11 Hickson Road, Walsh Bay, on the harbour side of the Rocks and a short scenic walk from the Sydney CBD. PIER dining events can also use Pier One’s private pontoon, so guests can arrive by boat. Ask your coordinator about parking and transport arrangements for your guests when you confirm.
PIER dining is open Tuesday to Saturday from 5.30pm until late. Outside those days and times, we can usually accommodate a group of 20 or more on a non-exclusive basis, with a minimum spend starting from $2,500. The hotel event rooms are not tied to the restaurant’s hours, so a daytime event is straightforward there.
At PIER dining, lunch events bump in from 12pm with food and beverage service from 12.30pm, and the space is yours until 4pm. Dinner events bump in from 5pm with service from 5.30pm, and the space is yours until 10pm. If you need a stylist or supplier in earlier than that, raise it in your enquiry.
All group menus at PIER dining are set menus, and one food package and one beverage package are chosen for the whole table rather than per guest. Final guest numbers, menu selections and dish selections are confirmed 72 hours before your event. All dietary requirements are catered to with advance notice, so tell your coordinator the numbers early.
Full prepayment is required for group dining and events at PIER dining. For events in the hotel spaces, your coordinator will confirm the deposit and payment schedule when you book. Exclusive hire events carry cancellation terms set out in the event sales contract.
